Every now and then, a story lands in your inbox that makes you smile instantly. A couple of months ago, I received a message from a soon-to-be groom all the way from America. He was travelling to the UK with his partner and had the most wonderful plan: to propose during a quiet walk around Avebury, Wiltshire
- a place with a special connection for them both as the English side of his family have lived in Wiltshire for generations, and as a couple they have had lots of happy holidays here.
From there, the secret planning began. We swapped messages, screenshots, and a lot of Google Maps pins—plotting the perfect place for him to drop to one knee without raising the slightest suspicion. Avebury is magical on its own, but adding a surprise proposal into the mix? Absolutely dreamy.
When the day arrived, everything fell into place AND it wasn't raining (we did have a wet weather plan!) I waited in position, pretending to be just chilling out in a field with my cameras hidden, and then, just as we had planned, he got down on one knee and she realised what was about to unfold.
What followed was a beautiful mini engagement session, full of laughter and happy tears. I had also spotted a beautiful poppy field on my walk to the meeting point which made a perfect spot for some photos after the intial surprise.
Being trusted to capture such an intimate, life-changing moment—especially for a couple travelling from the other side of the world—is such an honour. These are the stories that make my job feel like pure magic.
